South Africans love shopping, as evidenced by the fabulous shopping malls that dot the country in every province. Upmarket stores sell all your favourite name brands – but don’t miss the out-of-the-way centres like China Mart and African City, where you may just find the perfect bargain gifts to take home.

The other thing to enjoy is our street artists, who make many of the fine goods you can buy at almost any stop light. Spaza shops – informal traders who sell anything from crisps and cigarettes to tea bags and t-shirts.

Take a cab to one of the massive shopping malls. Go hungry – there are always excellent places to eat and enjoy a latte or a cappuccino. Malls are usually home to banks, ATMs and even Bureaus de Change. Step out and enjoy!
